You’ve got to start somewhere right?

So… this was my very first image I’d ever retouched. I was bored, and found a tutorial online, and thought to myself “why not give it a shot“. By this point I’d been using photoshop for nearly 20 years (this was actually completed back in November some time)… hindsight is a wonderful thing. I’m glad that I found the r/retouching subreddit, and I’m glad that I got a heap of constructive criticism. Because, grief, how I edited this poor lady just didn’t do her justice at all.

Oof.

I now know that using the mixing brush heavy handedly is bad, and should be used with caution.

I also now know that frequency separation isn’t the be all end all, and can go horribly wrong.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m impressed with absolute beginner Katanya. She did a good job for her first time. But we all grow as we go along and practice, and that is ultimately, what this blog is about.

All said and done though, I do still like what I did to her mouth and eyeshadow.

What do you think? Have you gone back and seen what you’ve done, where you’ve come from?
